New Fixturing System for Brittle Arcing Cathodes from PLANSEE

In this video Paul Rudnik from Plansee talks about the new fixing system used in ceramic and brittle composite materials. In this system the ceramic and brittle composite materials are made as cathodes by arc evaporation process. The system has an integrated carrier plate and a cathode ring.

The cathode ring made from molybdenum or ceramic materials has a coating material thus the arc remains on the cathode material during the coating process. The mounting material is made of tungsten-carbide, chromium-silicon, titanium-diboride and titanium-chromium, among other materials, and these materials can be reused many times.
