Ultra-Smooth Molybdenum and Tungsten Crucibles from PLANSEE

In this video Heike Larcher from Plansee talks about the ultra-smooth molybdenum and tungsten crucibles, which can be used for sapphire production. If the surface of the crucible is too rough, the sapphire melt sticks on the wall and can cause structural defects in the growing sapphire.

To avoid these defects pressed-sintered crucibles are developed by PLANSEE with the roughness less than 0.8 µm. Due to these ultra-smooth crucibles the sapphire melt comes from the wall easily and cracks in the crystal can be avoided. Also smooth surfaces are less affected by corrosion.
