Naim, Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

In the EN10028 standard P265GH is the equivalent for Gr 60 & P355GH is the equivalent for Gr 70.

      Hope this helps,

      Hi Abhishek,

There is no direct equivalent. The nearest would be IS 2002 Gr 3.

      Thanks,

Is used A516 gr70 to low temperature (-30°C)? Do you know about other steel to manufacture energy towers of high voltage (1.32kv)? thanks

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Buenos Dias Javier,

I can tell you that our Gr 70 material is tested to -50 degrees C. I cannot advise on any alternative grades, you would have to consult a design engineer due to the electo-conductivity aspects.

      Hope this helps.

  9. mohamed ahmed mohamed ahmed Saudi Arabia says:

Please we can use A 516 Gr.70 materials  four Sour Service

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Hi Mohamed,

My Quality Manager gave me the following feedback:

"Use of A516 Grade 70 in a sour service environment totally depends of the severity of the sour service environment.

Usually some form of additional HIC or SSC qualification of A516 Grade 70 material is required.

      Use this link: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pipelineandgasjournal.com%2Fmaterial-selection-sour-service-environment&ei=5BG-VJzVHpX1asyNgIAO&usg=AFQjCNG7Nrp6y3nZQulkeRVFLsoYH-umbA&sig2=KsdtuMW2c81ezkjBJllUvQ

as a good explanation of material selection in sour service environments."

      Hope this helps.

  10. Vijendra Kandari Vijendra Kandari U.A.E. says:

Our Material Specification requires ASTM A285-GR. C However the vendor has supplied ASTM A516 Gr. 70. I think ASTM A516 Gr. 70 is a higher grade so can i get approval for the same. This grade indifference is for Blind Flange.

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Hi Vijendra,

A516 Grade 55 is the closest A516 equivalent grade to A285 Grade C.

      A516 Grade 70 is a "higher " grade than A285 Grade C.

Approval of A516 Grade 70 instead of A285 Grade C is for the project would be at the discretion of the engineer.

      Hope this helps.

  11. Dilanka Mahesh Dilanka Mahesh Sri Lanka says:

is SA 516 ok with syn-gas mixture applications ? process conditions are 30 bar, 60 C
i have confused with possibility of the corrosion of this material, can u tell me something about it ?

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Hi Dilanka,

ASME SA516 is a standard specification for Carbon Steel pressure vessel plates for moderate and lower temperature service. Suitability for Specific Applications is totally dependent on the process environment and, as such, is the responsibility of the Design Engineer.

We do not have specific data for ASME SA516 relating to corrosion.

If you wish to receive further technical data for ASTM A516 (identical to ASME SA516) , and general information on Corrosion Problems during Oil & Gas Production please contact Masteel directly and I will be happy to send it across to you.

      Hope this helps.

  12. abdul raheem cholakkal abdul raheem cholakkal India says:

  13. waseem hassan waseem hassan Islamic Republic of Pakistan says:

Is  A516, Grade 70 Equivalent to Corten Steel 490 or  Corten steel Grade A ?
We intend to use A516, Grade 70 instead of Corten Steel Grade A & Corten Steel 490 for fabrication work of Regenerative Air Preheater. Temperature range is 320 C.

    Please advise us.

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Hi Waseem,

ASTM A516 Grade 70 is a Carbon Steel intended for service in Welded pressure vessels for Moderate and Lower Temperature Service.
While Corten 490 & Corten A are primarily Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant Steels.

As such Masteel cannot advise use of either grade of steel. This should be determined by the Design Engineer for the particular project.

If you require any further information I have a couple of supporting documents that I would be happy to send to you via email - please contact Masteel directly for this.

      Hope this helps.

  14. Harsha vashista Harsha vashista India says:

CAN WE USE S355J2+N, en 10025-2 in place of SA516 Gr 70?

    • Paul Murphy Paul Murphy United Kingdom says:

      Hi Harsha,

      EN10025-2 S355J2+N is a Structural Steel.
ASME SA516 Grade 70 is a Pressure Vessel Steel.

So S355J2+N is NOT usually used as a replacement for SA516 Gr 70.
But this decision is the responsibility of the Design Engineer for the particular project.

A more acceptable replacement grade could be EN10028-3 P355NL1, but again, this decision is the responsibility of the Design Engineer for the particular project.

      Hope this helps.
