Introduction

UNS C97800 alloy is a leaded nickel bronze copper alloy. Other types of bronze alloys include phosphor bronze, tin bronze, aluminum bronze, silicon bronze, architectural bronze and manganese bronze.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Welding

Welding processes suitable for UNS C97800 alloy include brazing and soldering. Welding processes not suitable for this alloy include coated metal arc welding, gas shielded arc welding, oxyacetylene welding and carbon arc welding is rated.

Machinability

The machinability rating of UNS C97800 alloy is 60.

Heat Treatment

UNS C97800 alloy has stress relieving temperature of 260°C (500°F). This alloy does not react to heat treatment. The time at temperature for this alloy is one hour per inch of section thickness.

Applications

UNS C97800 alloy is used for musical instrument components, valve seats, sanitary and ornamental castings and valves.
