Separation of Nanoparticles Using Centrifugal FFF – CF2000

The new advanced Postnova CF2000 Series is an advanced centrifugal FFF system specifically designed for the high-resolution separation and fractionation of nanoparticles.

The Postnova CF2000 Series is the first professional modular centrifugal FFF system available on the market allowing the simultainous seperation and sizing of nanoparticles.

Professional Modular SystemImage

The NovaFFF single software platform fully controls the system, running the entire system from autosampler to detectors. The CF2000 integrates the combined technologies and proven expertise of 30 years of leadership in FFF.

Its special design provides better performance, higher robustness, and more flexibility than that of conventional particle sizer systems.

The CF2000 Centrifugal FFF enables high resolution particle separation and sizing simultaneously, setting a new standard and providing a real alternative to standard particle characterization methods.

Broad Separation Range

With a wide separation range, the CF2000 system is capable of separating smaller species, such as polymers and proteins from larger particles in a single run with high resolution. The system is suitable for both nanoparticles and microparticles.

Silica, latex, Au and Ag particles, TiO2, and ZnO are standard samples for the CF2000 Centrifugal FFF system, but different organic and inorganic particles and sediment from ground, surface, and waste waters can also be isolated and additionally examined following fractionation.

The centrifugal FFF method manually separates each particle fraction before sizing, unlike the standard particle sizing methods that function in the batch mode. This prevents various disadvantages associated with the batch methods such as discrimination, low size resolution, and under estimation of smaller particles by larger ones.

Just like the Flow FFF, there is no need for any special sample treatment as the particles can be directly injected without filtration, enabling the characterization of complex particulate sample systems without causing any damage or changes.

Particle Size and Density Separation

Based on the centrifugal FFF principle, the CF2000 Series system uses a centrifugal field as a driving force for the separation. Particles that are affected by this field are isolated by dynamic diffusion on the basis of both density and particle size. With this unique feature, different particle materials with the same particle size can be separated.

The use of various eluents and temperature programs further optimize the separation process. The CF2000 can be used to seperate complex particle samples in the area of nanomaterials, environmental, and food-agro-cosmetics.

Advanced Centrifugal FFF Detection

The CF2000 comes with special FFF detectors and various add-on modules such as dynamic light scattering (DLS), multi-angle light scattering (MALS), and refractive index (RI), so that users can readily access the broad application range.

All Postnova FFF detectors and FFF modules have been exclusively developed for FFF, and have been optimized for use with the CF2000 Centrifugal FFF as well as other Postnova FFF versions. The CF2000 Series has also been developed to allow easy interfacing with current high-end detection technologies from top instrument suppliers.

This will allow users to incorporate the Postnova FFF technology into the current lab infrastructure to improve both investment and efficiency.

Benefits of the CF2000 Series

High Resolution Separations

Centrifugal FFF has the ability to deliver true high resolution particle size separations, which is different from other commercially available particle size analyzers. It does not use algorithms or assumptions, but simply separates the single particles fractions with very high resolution.

Broad Separation Size Range

With the CF2000 technology, large, medium, and small particles can be simultaneously separated in just a single analysis and discrimination of smaller particles by larger ones can be prevented, which is often a limitation in light scattering-based methods.

Separation under Native Conditions

The unique unpacked and open Centrifugal FFF channel enables the use of any kind of eluent suitable for the sample particles. Particle kinetics and behavior under specific conditions, such as ionic strength, pH, and so on can be easily examined with the CF2000 system.

Separation of Same Size Particles

Since the Centrifugal FFF is able to isolate by density and size, same size particles with different structures and chemical compositions can be differentiated.

Flexibility and Interfaceability

The CF2000 Series can be used as a modular FFF system, which can be easily interfaced with other available detection systems such as SAXS, MALS, DLS, and UV. The Centrifugal FFF can be used as a high resolution size fractionation system, which can be subsequently integrated offline or online with high resolution detection systems, which provides an ultimate 2D views of any sample system.
