Coatings and Thin Films

Coatings and thin films are applied to objects to alter their surface properties including appearance. They may be applied as liquids, gases or solids and enhance surface properties such as hardness, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and high temperature stability. A myriad of techniques can be used to apply thin films and coatings such as chemical and physical vapor deposition, thermal spray techniques, anodizing and electrophoretic deposition to name but a few.
Journals
Chemistry of Materials is devoted to the publication of original contributions on forefront, fundamental research at the interface of chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science. Both theoretical and experimental studies which focus on the preparation or understanding of materials with unusual or useful properties are relevant.
Journal of Coatings Technology and Research (JCTR) is a forum for the exchange of research, experience, knowledge and ideas among those with a professional interest in the science, technology and manufacture of functional, protective and decorative coatings including paints, inks and related coatings and their raw materials, and similar topics.
Surface Science Spectra offers convenient and easy access to spectral data from on-going international industrial and scholarly research. The Surface Science Spectra journal represents the hard-copy publication of data entered in to the AVS surface science spectra database.
Focusing on R&D in advanced materials, particularly their application, Materials Technology emphasises technology transfer and the communication of information of practical value to its readers through a variety of carefully tailored formats. Coverage reflects the growing emphasis on manipulation and characterisation of structures and functional features down to the nanoscale. Recent and forthcoming theme issues cover technical textiles, light metals and biomaterials and bio-medical engineering.
Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology, an official journal of the European Federation of Corrosion, provides broad international coverage of research and practice in corrosion processes and corrosion control. Peer-reviewed contributions address all aspects of corrosion engineering and corrosion science; there is strong emphasis on effective design and materials selection to combat corrosion. CEST’s scope encompasses all metallic and non-metallic materials and composites.
Substrate–surface design and tailored surfaces are critical in rapidly developing industry sectors such as biomedical, sensors, catalysis, energy and reactive systems, as well as to assure wear and corrosion performance of engineering components. Surface Engineering addresses developments in technology, process optimisation and design through peer-reviewed original research and reviews. Regular authoritative technology visions review state-of-the-art specific applications and industry sectors.
The Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology A is devoted to reports of original research, review articles, and Critical Review articles. JVST A covers topics such as applied surface science, electronic materials and processing, fusion technology, plasma technology, surface science, thin films, vacuum metallurgy, and vacuum technology.
