Trelleborg Sites to be Powered by Renewable Energy Sources

All of Trelleborg’s sites in the United Kingdom have signed a 12-month contract to be supplied with 100 percent "green" electricity. Only 5 percent of total UK production comes from renewable sources such as wind farms, hydro-stations and landfill gas.

In a decidedly “green” move, Trelleborg has signed a contract with E-On Energy to supply 17 UK sites with electricity produced from renewable sources. The contract will greatly benefit the environment in the light of Trelleborg’s total annual energy consumption, in the UK, of 62,697,000 kwh, which would have released over 27,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning coal or oil-based fossil fuels (“brown energy”).

To reduce carbon dioxide emissions and meet the requirements of the Kyoto protocol, the UK government has placed a “climate-change” tax on brown energy. This tax means that green energy - more expensive than brown - now costs the same as brown energy because green bills are exempt from the tax.
