Rohm and Haas Announces Acrylic Acid Expansion

Rohm and Haas Company has announced plans for an acrylic acid expansion at the Marl, Germany plant. The Marl, Germany plant is operated through StoHaas, a 50-50 joint venture between Rohm and Haas Company and Degussa AG.

The expansion will yield an additional 65,000 tons acrylic acid, adding to the 200,000 ton capacity of the Marl plant, making it one of the largest acrylic acid plants in Europe.

“This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to the acrylic chain,” says Gerard E. Tarzia, Vice President, Business Unit Director for Rohm and Haas Company’s Monomers business. “This expansion will provide Rohm and Haas with additional capacity to meet continued growth in its downstream acrylic polymer businesses, as well as the growing demand for acrylic monomer in our European merchant market.”

Start up is expected in July 2006.
