Huntsman to Purchase Technology for World-Scale Low Density Polyethylene Plant

Huntsman and ExxonMobil Chemical have announced that they have signed a Contract for Huntsman to purchase a Technology License from ExxonMobil for a world-scale low density polyethylene (LDPE) manufacturing facility Huntsman is to build on Teesside, UK.

Huntsman announced in September 2004 plans to build the plant at the Wilton International site on Teesside, England. The new plant will have a capacity of 400,000 tonnes per annum of LDPE and is expected to cost around £200 million. The technology will be provided by ExxonMobil Chemical who have now signed a License Agreement with Huntsman for them to use the ExxonMobil technology. Huntsman and ExxonMobil have also signed a pre-marketing contract on LDPE.

Huntsman has also signed a contract with SembCorpSimon-Carves to design the new plant.

Work has already begun on the new Huntsman facility and completion is due in the third quarter of 2007.
