Chisso announced on March 31 that the company has set up Chisso Korea, a wholly owned subsidiary for production of LCD alignment film and color filter overcoat, in the Republic of Korea.
The company, which has to date produced liquid crystals and LCD-related materials only in Japan, has decided to set up a production base in Korea in response to growing demand from Korean LCD manufacturers.
Chisso Korea will build a new factory in Pyeongtaek, Kyonggi-Do, beginning this month. The construction is scheduled for completion in September.
Chisso also plans to construct a liquid crystal blend facility in Taiwan by fall 2006. Investment in both Korean and Taiwanese plants is expected to reach 5 billion yen ($46.7 mil).
