Bayer and Asahi Glass Complete Agreement on a Production Technology for High Performance Polyether Polyols

Bayer, and Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. have completed a license agreement for Double Metal Cyanide (DMC) polyol technologies.

Bayer allowed Asahi Glass to produce and sell DMC polyol using a part of Bayer's Impact technology to the market inside and outside of Japan for an undisclosed license fee and Asahi Glass allowed Bayer to sell special DMC based polyol using Asahi Glass's patented ®Preminol technology to the Japanese market.

Both technologies include an advantageous process which uses Double Metal Cyanide (DMC) as a catalyst for the polyoxyalkylation.

The license agreement specifically includes various patents for the production of high performance polyether polyols, which are used as the base products for flexible foams and elastomers.

The objectives of this agreement are to strengthen the positions of both companies as DMC technology leaders and to enhance cooperation to promote new businesses using DMC technologies.
