High Performance Glass Fiber Roving for Wind Energy and Other Industrial Markets

PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has introduced HYBON 2026 fiber glass roving for use in wind energy and other global markets. This high-performance fiber glass enables manufacturers to make larger wind turbine blades, which help to increase turbines' energy output.

Manufactured by PPG at five locations - three in the United States; one in Wigan, England, U.K.; and one in Zibo, Shandong Province, China, that is a joint venture of PPG and Sinoma Jinjing Fiber Glass Co. Ltd. - HYBON 2026 fiber glass roving reinforces composites used to create longer, lighter turbine blades. Customers can optimize their wind blade designs and production processes using this flexible product. HYBON 2026 fiber glass is also one of the few high performance rovings that is multi-compatible in a variety of resin systems, providing customers with versatility in design and engineering.

"Customers have reported higher tensile strength and fatigue performance when using HYBON 2026," according to Cheryl Richards, PPG global market manager, wind energy. "It achieves these results in both epoxy and next-generation-technology vinyl ester resins."

With its global availability and rich portfolio of products, PPG Industries provides leadership in the renewable energy market. In addition to offering fiber glass for turbine blades and coatings for wind towers and blades, PPG also supplies glass and coatings for the solar energy market.

"PPG is demonstrating its global dedication to renewable energy by manufacturing and supplying new products to these markets," said Victoria M. Holt, senior vice president, glass and fiber glass. "Products such as HYBON 2026 fiber glass help PPG to support the growth of on- and off-shore wind farms."
