Metallic Surface Preparation Experts Open New Manufacturing Facility in Poland

Metallic surface preparation experts, Wheelabrator Group, is marking 100 years of technological excellence by officially opening a brand new manufacturing facility in Poland.

Now formally open and operational, the new €7million, purpose built plant in Wrzesnia, near Poznan will manufacture a complete line of surface preparation equipment and components. The 35,000m² site will produce a full range of air and wheel blast equipment to meet local and global demands for high quality and competitively priced solutions. The new manufacturing centre is key to supporting the company’s aim of producing a range of machines with a 6 – 12 week delivery time, as well as supporting the company’s Technology Centres in the manufacture of its custom-built solutions.

Robert E. Joyce Jr., president and CEO of Wheelabrator Group, said: “Wheelabrator has three target growth areas - Asia, India and Central Europe. We looked at a number of the surrounding countries before settling in Poland.

“The company already has a small plant in Zagorow, near Konin, but we needed a larger facility to fully support our development strategies and our growing order book. The investment in Wrzesnia establishes a strong local presence in the region, as we have been operating there for over ten years now, and we are pleased that this new investment coincides with our centenary celebrations.

“Our customers demand that we provide better support, faster service and closer technical links as they move production eastward. The Wrzesnia facility enables us to commit to our customers’ long-term growth plans.

Wheelabrator Group worked with a specialist in industrial buildings to build the new facility, and the land was purchased from the local city council. The centre has been designed for a workforce of 250 people, spread across manufacturing, design, warehousing and administration functions.

Tomasz Kaluzny, Mayor of Wrzesnia, said: “We’re delighted our city has been chosen by Wheelabrator for such a prestigious facility. We can offer a strong geographical location and plentiful resources.

“As a major employer, Wheelabrator Group will be a significant contributor to our economy and we look forward to working together.”

During the official opening ceremony on June 6, five trees were planted and Robert E. Joyce Jr. presented Tomasz Kaluzny, Mayor of Wrzesnia, with a generous donation to a local kindergarden for disabled children.

Local TV and media recorded the ribbon cutting ceremony and the local priest blessed the center. Staff and their families enjoyed a great picnic with suckling pig, bouncy castle, and dancing until midnight.
