Martin Marietta Materials Acquire and Divest Quarries

US construction aggregates and magnesia-based chemical producer Martin Marietta Materials Inc (MMM) has just purchased four quarries from Oldcastle Materials. The four quarries are located in Birmingham. The acquisitions provide a good strategic fit with their organisation. With good rail and road access, it is hoped that they will be able to grow their shipments at an above average rate.

The quarries currently produce approximately 5 million tons of limestone per year and have reserves of over 100 million tons.

In addition to the acquisitions, MMM has also divested itself of six quarries in Columbus, Ohio, selling them to and affiliate of Oldcastle Materials. These quarries produce about 7 million tons per year.
