Impact Modified Acrylic Plastic Designed for Signs

Spartech Corporation, a leader in sign plastics since 1960, has developed Zycryl Plus, an economical, highly engineered, impact-modified acrylic alloy with properties well-suited for channel letters, as well as flat and thermoformed sign faces.

"ZycrylTM Plus is an affordable alternative to general purpose acrylic sheet," explained John Hirsch, product manager-polycarbonate and Acrylic Sheet. "It combines the superior fabrication characteristics and shop-handling toughness of a specially formulated rubber-enhanced acrylic. ZycrylTM Plus exhibits an excellent balance of stiffness, clarity, and economy rivaling the general purpose sheet. It's an ideal, lower cost product for letters and signs requiring some breakage resistance."

Hirsch went on to say ZycrylTM Plus is recyclable; and colors can be produced with light diffusing technology to enhance the appearance of signs using low-energy LED lighting. "The application of LED lighting as a 'green' alternative is popular in the sign industry today. Unfortunately, this type of lighting often creates unattractive 'hot spots' which can be seen through the plastic surface. ZycrylTM Plus light diffusing colors effectively hide LED light 'hot spots' with little sacrifice of light transmission, greatly improving the look of channel letters and signs."

ZycrylTM Plus can be fabricated using standard acrylic tooling and techniques, and offers better machinability and resistance to breakage. The new sheet is available in clear and light-diffusing translucent white. Custom colors are available subject to product minimums.
