Successful Commencement of Solution Linear Low Density Polyethylene II Train in Thailand

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) announced today the successful startup of the Solution Linear Low Density Polyethylene II train (SPE II).

SPE II is owned by Siam Polyethylene Co., Ltd, a joint venture of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and Siam Cement Group (SCG), which is located at the existing Map-Ta-Phut manufacturing facility in Rayong Province, Thailand. It is expected that products from SPE II will be commercially available in November 2010.

“The start up of the SPE II train further strengthens our leadership position and technology expertise in the global octene-based polyethylene market. This new train not only demonstrates Dow’s commitment to Asia Pacific, but also provides our customers with potential differentiation opportunities that will drive their business growth”, said Peter Wong, Commercial Vice President, Plastics, Asia Pacific, Dow Chemical Pacific (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Siam Polyethylene Co., Ltd is one of many joint venture companies between Dow and SCG. “The successful start up of SPE II continues to demonstrate the great partnership between the two companies, and our commitment to deliver results and business growth to create value for all our customers,” said Cholanat Yanaranop, President of SCG Chemicals Company Limited.
