Alcan have won a United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) award for excellence in sustainable development. The award was the result of a an original program promoting the benefits of recycling and fostering entrepreneurial spirit amongst school children around the world.
Alcan’s International Micro-Business Network (IMBN) was responsible for the program which is one of their sustainability initiatives.
The program was designed to make people aware of the environment as well as promoting sustainability and nurturing entrepreneurial skills development.
The IMBN was established 12 years ago and reaches many countries throughout the world. It seeks to educate and helps schools to launch their own self-sustaining businesses. The businesses will a focus on sustainability and recycling are able to reinvest the profits into the micro-business or the school and its activities.
