Univar to Market and Distribute Hydrochloric Acid Produced Using K2 Pure’s Inherently-Safe Technology

Univar, the worldwide distributor for industrial and specialty chemicals, has inked an agreement with K2 Pure Solutions to promote and distribute hydrochloric acid produced using the Inherently Safe Technology (IST). K2 Pure is credited with the creation and application of the innovative IST manufacturing process.

This technology facilitates the production of pure chlorine-alkali products like hydrochloric acid, caustic soda and bleach with only salt and water as raw materials along with electricity at economically viable costs.

The need to import railcars of chlorine that traverse through densely populated regions posing a grave hazard to the populace is eliminated by adopting this technology. The manufacturing facility of K2 Pure at Pittsburg in California commenced production of hydrochloric acid in July 2012.

Brian Jurcak, Vice President of Product management at Univar, stated that the augmented supply of hydrochloric acid from K2 Pure would be well-received by customers who place high importance on safety and quality.

David Cynamon, K2 Pure’s Executive Chairman, stated that the agreement was a natural extension of their existing relationship with Univar and that the access gained by virtue of the agreement to Univar’s strong customer base in North America would give K2 Pure a robust platform for growth.

Univar operates a global network of over 260 centers in Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s sales offices are located in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Univar announced sales of $9.7 billion in 2011.
