Ceradyne to Supply More RBSN Diesel Components

Advanced ceramics manufacturer Ceradyne have just received a multi year commitment for the supply of sintered reaction bonded silicon nitride (SRBSN) engine components from their largest diesel engines customer.

The customer who was unnamed already purchases components from Ceradyne. Last year their orders totalled $2.7 million.

The new agreement will see Ceradyne manufacture an initial quantity worth about $1.4 million. This order should be complete by the end of the third quarter of this year. If successful, they believe orders could exceed $26 million by the end of 2006.

To date Ceradyne has been manufacturing ceramic cam followers in reaction bonded silicon nitride for the customer’s diesel engines. If the new parts are successful, this will effectively triple the number of ceramic components that they provide for each engine.
