Samsung and Atofina Form Joint Venture

Samsung General Chemicals and Atofina, TotalFinaElf’s chemical division have launched their 50-50 joint venture called Samsung-Atofina, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding back in December.

This is Korea’s first petrochemical joint venture, involving a foreign company.

Through economies of scale, the joint venture will be able to gain a leading position in the Asian market, working on the back of Samsung General Chemical’s established track record.

Together, the joint venture will have a capacity of 3.65 million tons of ethylene, 4.57 million tons of polyolefins and 1.95 million tons of styrene monomer.
