Bluescope Steel Commit to 5 Year Pollution Reduction Program

On Wednesday 13 June, The NSW Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Water, Philip Koperberg, and BlueScope Steel President Australian and New Zealand Industrial Markets, Noel Cornish, signed a document to commit the Port Kembla Steelworks to its fifth Five Year Pollution Reduction Program.

The Program for 2007 to 2012 comprises 22 discreet environmental projects which will become binding commitments within the Port Kembla Steelworks' licence to operate. The projects will address air quality, water quality and conservation, flora and fauna, chemical storage, environmental surveillance and waste management and recycling.

The first Five Year Pollution Reduction Program began in 1976, and since that time the Company has worked diligently to deliver on its environmental improvement commitments.

To date, the aggregate of the Company's investment in cleaner air and water and less noise through these programs exceeds $300 million.
