Daylight Solutions Receives Microscopy Innovation and R&D 100 Finalist Awards

Following a series of impressive awards in 2014, Daylight Solutions, Inc., the world’s leader in mid-infrared detection and imaging solutions, announced two new prestigious awards for their Spero™ microscope.



Spero was awarded the 6th Annual Microscopy Today Innovation Award and was also named a finalist in the 2015 R&D 100 Awards taking place later this year.

The winners of the Microscopy Today Innovation Awards were announced last week at the Microscopy and Microanalysis Conference in Portland, OR. The awards are hosted by the editors of Microscopy Today magazine and recognize outstanding innovations across a broad range of microscopy techniques and products.

Daylight Solutions’ Spero was recognized for enabling real-time chemical imaging for the first time in a mid-infrared microscope.  Spero was selected from an impressive list of finalists including Carl Zeiss and others.

Spero was also recently announced as a finalist in the 2015 R&D 100 Awards. The R&D 100 Awards, often described as “The Oscars of Invention” are awarded to the top technology products of the year across industry, academia, and government-sponsored research.  The final winners will be announced at an awards gala in November.

These recent awards follow a remarkable set of awards granted to Spero following its launch in March of 2014. Spero was awarded the 2014 Innovation Award Grand Prize at CLEO, the Conference for Lasers and Electro-Optics, and was also named “Top Product” at Pittcon 2014 byInstrument Business Outlook at Strategic Directions International.

Spero is the world’s first laser-based infrared microscopy platform and represents a true breakthrough in high-performance spectral imaging. Spectral imaging allows a user to visualize the varying chemical content across a sample and Spero provides this data with higher spatial resolution, larger fields of view, and dramatically faster than existing instruments.
