Winner the 2008 SABIC Innovative Plastics Car Design Contest - U.S. Announced

SABIC Innovative Plastics announced today that David Lucas, a third year industrial design student at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., is the winner of the 2008 SABIC Innovative Plastics Car Design Contest - U.S.

The local competition, based on the Car Design News Contest 2008 design brief, challenged U.S. student designers to create a 3D virtual model of a “green-connected” urban vehicle for the Millenniumite generation (people born in 2000) who will lead international lives, have “green” values, and expect connectivity to the virtual world. Lucas designed a futuristic vehicle called the Zenkeri.

The Zenkeri was inspired by the lotus flower and through the use of a variety of high performance plastics offered by SABIC Innovative Plastics, the Zenkeri maintains environmental consciousness and space efficiency, while possessing a sharp and sporty aesthetic feel.

In addition to Lucas, awards were also presented to three other Wayne State University students and two students from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich.
