Background
Rainer Hebert received a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003 following a diploma in physics from
the University of Saarbliicken, Germany, in 1997. From 2003-2005 he was a post-doctoral
researcher at the Institute of Nanotechnology, Research Center Karlsruhe, Germany.
During that time he examined thin films with a focus on actuation of metallic
thin films. In 2005 Rainer returned to the University of Wisconsin and continued
his previous research on metallic glasses. Starting at UConn in the fall of
2006, he has since pursued two separate research areas, one related to metallic
glasses and a second topic related to the deformation of two-phase metallic
materials.
Current Research
- Metallic glasses: thermomechanical behavior under sustained deformation
- Metallic glasses: wear behavior, driven crystallization
- Plastic instability in metallic multilayers during accumulative roll bonding
