A New Clyrell Polypropylene Grade Resin from Basell

A new high-performance Clyrell polypropylene grade from Basell that provides aesthetic and mechanical properties often requested by customers in the food packaging and consumer industries is now available and is being used in a wide range of applications.

According to Nathalie Cartiaux, technical service manager for Basell Polyolefins Europe, the new resin -- Clyrell EC140R -- achieves a unique combination of high fluidity, clarity, high gloss, stiffness and low temperature impact. Due to the material’s outstanding properties, customers have chosen the material for frozen food packaging and consumer products applications.

“This latest addition to the Clyrell product family has outstanding optical properties that give product designers considerable creative scope for diversification,” said Cartiaux. “Products can be transparent, tinted or moulded in solid or bright colors and with high gloss, including the added benefit of minimal stress whitening.” She said that in addition to food applications, the new resin is being used by customers to manufacture luggage and toys.

Basell is the world's largest producer of polypropylene and advanced polyolefin products, a leading supplier of polyethylene and catalysts, and a global leader in the development and licensing of polypropylene and polyethylene processes. Basell, together with its joint ventures, has manufacturing facilities around the world and sells products in more than 120 countries.
