Important Development in the Area of Reactive Hot Melt Adhesives from Rohm and Haas

Textile laminators at Techtextil 2005, Europe’s foremost technical textile exhibition, will have the opportunity to learn of an important development in the area of reactive hot melt adhesives from Rohm and Haas Company. The company will be located at Booth G13 (Hall 3.0) in the Congress Center Messe Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, 7-9 June.

Rohm and Haas, which has wide-ranging expertise in the development of adhesives for laminating membranes, garments and upholstery, foam bonding, and automotive and medical textiles, will address issues related to the ease of running reactive hot melt adhesives on textile laminating machines. “This is an area some adhesives producers may overlook, but we at Rohm and Haas appreciate that production line issues are tremendously important to textile laminators,” states Julie Birch, Rohm and Haas commercial manager for textile laminating in Europe. “We expect a lot of interest at Techtextil surrounding this topic.”

For example, an especially important advantage of the company’s Mor-Melt R-7001E moisture-curing polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive is the ease with which it can be cleaned from the laminating machine. Less time spent cleaning the machine translates into a longer production run – as much as one-half hour longer each day. In addition, the adhesive’s high initial bond strength and long open time contribute to faster line speeds and substantially less material loss during machine stoppages, respectively. “Our focus is on developing adhesives that provide superior performance on the substrates being laminated and on the machines,” says Birch. “It’s important to our customers, and it’s important to us.”
