European watercraft can now have award-winning gel coat protection and be more environmentally considerate thanks to the introduction of Ashland’s AME 6000 T35 premium marine resin. Introduced by Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc., AME 6000 resin is used in the skin coat and throughout the laminate structure of boat hulls.

Ashland’s AME 6000 T35 premium marine resin was featured on two boats awarded best of show at the Helsinki Boat Show in February. Judging criteria included the finishing of the boat hulls, where Ashland’s premium marine resin was incorporated.

Ashland’s family of AME modified epoxy and vinyl ester resins delivers the strength, profile and endurance necessary for the most demanding powerboat and yacht applications. AME 6000 T-35 premium marine resin received Lloyd’s Register approval in 2004 and has been introduced to the European marine market.

“As we grow our premium business globally, successes like the approval of AME 6000 resin by Lloyd’s are critical to validating and differentiating our premium brands,” said Theodore “Ted” Harris, vice president Ashland Specialty Chemical, general manager of Composite Polymers. In addition AME 6000 resin is low in styrene content and meets the stringent regulatory requirements of the European Union.

Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, is a leader in supplying products, processes and technologies to the global marketplace for composites and gel coats.

Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc., is a leading, worldwide supplier of specialty chemicals serving industries including adhesives, automotive, composites, metal casting, merchant marine, paint, paper, plastics, watercraft and water treatment.
