Arburg to Present Innovative Exhibits at Plastpol

At Plastpol in Kielce, Poland, from 26 to 29 May 2009, Arburg will present two innovative exhibits on stand G-25 in Hall G: firstly, a cost-efficient automation solution comprising an Allrounder 470 C Golden Edition and Multilift V Select robotic system; secondly, an electric Allrounder 420 A with a high-speed thin-walled application.

The cost-effective automation system, which has been on the market since autumn 2008, boasts an impressive performance potential: the combination of tried and tested Allrounder Golden Edition machines and the servo-electric Multilift V Select robotic system. This opens up an array of new possible applications for the Golden Edition machines. Moreover, the offering comprises not just the machine and robotic system, but also a complete production unit including guarding with electrical connections, conveyor belt and CE certification.

The exhibit is an Allrounder 470 C Golden Edition, which has a clamping force of 1,500 kN and a size 400 injection unit. The Allrounder achieves a maximum shot weight of 232 grams of PS. The moulded parts are removed and set down by the vertically operating Multilift V Select robotic system.

Intelligent, user-friendly control system
The entire electrics of the control system are integrated centrally in the unit. The integrated robotic system is programmed and controlled via the Selogica control system. The teach-in function makes this particularly simple and convenient. Here, the individual steps are carried out manually and the various positions simply confirmed with the “Teach” button. All the necessary parameter entries are then automatically checked and executed in the control system. Simultaneously, Selogica ‘direct’ independently generates the entire robotic sequence and integrates this in the machine cycle as well.
As with all Arburg products, the customer can be confident that he is buying tried-and-tested, high-quality Arburg technology “Made by Arburg – made in Germany”, so that all the components will be perfectly coordinated.

Pure high-tech: the Allrounder 420 A
The Allrounder 420 A, with a clamping force of 1,000 kN and size 400 injection unit, will represent the electric Alldrive series at the Plastpol.
With the production of cups, the exhibit demonstrates the excellent performance of electric Arburg machines in the field of high-speed thin-walled applications: equipped with a two-cavity mould, it produces the polypropylene cups in a cycle time of just 2.2 seconds. The shot weight of both cups is 16.4 grams. After the injection moulding process, the cups are removed and stacked by a robotic system.

The principal characteristics of the electric Allrounder A machines are their speed, precision and high reproducibility, which are ensured by the outstanding positioning accuracy of the electric movement axes. Thanks to the accuracy of the axis movements, synchronous entry into the mould can be performed quickly and precisely, optimising cycle times, as impressively demonstrated by the Plastpol exhibit.

Alldrive series for maximum energy efficiency
The main axes of the electric Allrounder A, with servo-electric drive as standard, enable simultaneous machine movements and, as a result, short cycle times. The auxiliary axes can be driven electrically or hydraulically, depending on customer requirements.
The high level of efficiency of the servo-electric drives and the toggle-type clamping unit ensure energy-efficient operation. Accordingly, the Alldrive machines bear the Arburg “e²” energy efficiency label.

The future belongs to automation
“The future belongs to automation. In the packaging sector, in particular, life without fully automated applications is unimaginable. The resulting cost efficiency ensures that the customer achieves the return on investment in a very short time, which is so important in this sector. But automation systems with an attractive price/performance ratio are also increasingly in demand. The performance of the automation systems working with the Allrounder Golden Edition offer ample proof of this: from reliable injection moulding to simple programming of the robotic system with teach-in function. Another decisive advantage of Arburg machines is that the expertise all comes from a single source. Despite the stagnating economic situation, we see sufficient potential for both automation options in the Polish plastics market,” forecasts the manager of the Polish Arburg subsidiary, Dr. Slawomir Sniady, in the run-up to Plastpol.
