LyondellBasell Launch New Production Technology for Specialty LDPE and EVA Products

LyondellBasell Industries announces the launch of Lupotech A technology for the production of specialty low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) products.

This high-pressure autoclave process technology is optimized for the manufacture of advanced products with demanding processing requirements, such as adhesives and sealants with vinyl acetate content of up to 40 percent, or LDPE chemical structures with unique properties.

"Products from the Lupotech A process complement the LDPE and EVA portfolio covered by the leading tubular process Lupotech T," said Kaspar Evertz, LyondellBasell's Senior Vice President of Licensing. "We are excited that we have been able to extend our wide-ranging portfolio of polyolefin technologies for license to the global markets."

"Given the number of LDPE autoclave plants that have been in operation for many years," Evertz continued, "the new Lupotech A technology will provide additional opportunities for scale-up and for production optimization building on LyondellBasell's experience."

1.4 million tonnes of installed capacity

Lupotech A builds upon a well established heritage, with 44 reactors and 1.4 million tonnes of installed capacity worldwide to date. The unique reactor design is optimized with multiple zones, a unique injection scheme for both, monomers and initiators, an advanced pressure and temperature profile control across the reactor, and a unique agitation system that allows for high conversion rates.

In addition to the Lupotech A process, LyondellBasell's portfolio of licensed polyolefin technologies and associated technical services is comprised of:

  • Spheripol -- leading polypropylene technology for the production of homopolymer, random and heterophasic copolymers
  • Spherizone -- latest generation polypropylene technology, based on a new multi-zone reactor for the production of polypropylene and novel polyolefins.
  • Spherilene -- advanced, swing-gas-phase process for the production of LLDPE, MDPE and HDPE
  • Hostalen -- leading low-pressure slurry process for the production of bimodal HDPE
  • Lupotech T -- leading high-pressure, tubular-reactor process for the production of LDPE and EVA copolymers
  • Metocene PP -- technology for the production of specialty polypropylene products using single-site catalyst systems
