Dow Chemical (China) and Haier Group have signed an agreement to form a
global joint innovation laboratory. The lab will be located at Haier Group’s
Technique R&D Center in Qingdao, China. The new facility will speed up the
innovation partnership between both the companies by managing their research and
development projects.
The lab will leverage Haier’s expectation of consumer requirements and
industry trends and enhance Dow’s technical and global research capabilities.
The Strategic Cooperation Committee will identify and evaluate projects and
activities to be performed in the joint innovation lab. Chief Technology Officer
of Dow Asia Pacific, Dr. Weiguang Yao stated that through the partnership, Dow
provides innovation expertise to support Haier’s activities in offering
sustainable and varied solutions in consumer electronics and home appliance
products in China and across the world.
Dow and Haier started the strategic innovation collaboration in 2009. Both
the companies have performed several profitable programs, including the launch
of the breakthrough Magic-Pallets Washing technology and Haier’s acceptance of
Dow’s patented PASCAL insulation technology to produce energy-saving household
freezers and refrigerators. These breakthrough projects have helped both the
companies to move forward and establish the joint innovation laboratory. The
joint lab will leverage the partnership to a new level and will also help to
convert Haier’s technical capabilities into commercialized solutions.
