Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will supply a new 50 ton electric arc furnace to Baku Steel from Azerbaijan. This installation is part of Baku Steel’s plans to increase its annual production capacity to 1.1 million tons of steel.
Siemens will also supply a waste gas cleaning system and a ladle furnace along with the electric arc furnace in order to reduce steel emissions from the plant. The project is expected to be completed by April 2013.
With this installation the total capacity of the plant will come to 500,000 tons of steel per year. The waste gas cleaning system comprises a direct dedusting system for the electric arc furnace. A secondary dedusting system will also be installed for the EAF bay. The entire waste gas cleaning system will have a suction capacity of 950,000 Nm3/h. The fully automated system will reduce the dust levels to 10 mg/Nm3 in order to comply with the standards of European Union for dust emissions.
Other installations include mechanical equipment for the ladle furnace, a water cooled roof basic automation of the electric arc furnace, a compact gantry, and current-conducting electrode arms. Siemens will assist Baku Steel with the installation and commission of the equipment.
