Cabot’s Carbon Black Pigment Chosen for Halsan’s Automotive Coatings

Taiwan-based Halsan Paint & Color has chosen EMPEROR 1800 carbon black from Cabot, a global specialty chemical and performance materials company, for use in its next-generation automotive coatings.

The application of EMPEROR 1800 will facilitate the Taiwan-based company to offer rich black coatings for first-class vehicles and motorcycles across Asia. The product offers superior color performance and is easy to apply.

Black coatings formulators are continuously trying to achieve superior jetness, meaning cleaner and darker with a blue tint, with the use of carbon black pigments that are considerably difficult to handle. Several top-class carbon black pigments have drawbacks that include the use of costly dispersants and long milling times. They minimize the formulator’s capability to alter other features of the final coating.

The carbon black pigment from Cabot overcomes these issues and helps to achieve higher jetness with no compromise in total cost, formulation flexibility and production efficiency. When compared to competitive products, EMPEROR 1800 can minimize the amount of dispersion additives needed by over 50% and dispersion times by over 85%.

EMPEROR 1800 is the Cabot’s newly developed product in the area of high-strength black pigments used for water-borne formulations. This advancement contributes to reduction in manufacturing costs and exceeds industry standards for color performance.
