3M Unveils High-Performance Structural Adhesives

3M, a diversified technology company, has launched 3M Scotch-Weld LSB Structural Adhesives for large structure bonding. These adhesives are available in three different formulas: one flexible two part epoxy solution and two toughened epoxy formulas.

LSB90 is the 3M Scotch-Weld flexible epoxy adhesive and LSB60 and LSB60NS are the 3M Scotch-Weld toughened epoxy adhesives offered by the company. These high-performance structural adhesives are an ideal alternative to mechanical fasteners such as screws, rivets and welds. The products offer long-term resistance to impact and vibration. Additionally, they help to decrease the work level and uncertainties associated with multiple production as well as end-use benefits.

When an adhesive is used, stress is distributed evenly over the bonded region and the panels’ surface integrity and physical features are maintained. In addition, the material enables manufacturers to utilize very thin, lightweight panels without any concern about cracking, tearing or distortion. In case of welding, workers get exposed to heat and the process requires refinishing of burned ridges. This is avoided in the bonding process. The structural adhesives can be applied in uneven patterns depending on the random shapes of the panels. They allow binding of different materials without stresses or galvanic corrosion and in addition, the adhesives prevent the drilling and panel surface refinishing works. Thus, structural adhesives save workers’ time and help to keep the panels clean and smooth. 3M Scotch-Weld Structural Adhesives are available in 400 ml EPX cartridges, drums and pails.
