New Model Honda Civics to Feature Aluminium Heat Exchangers from Showa Denko

Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) announces the adoption of its automotive heat exchangers in Honda Motor Co., Ltd.’s new Civic and Civic Hybrid models.

Honda, a major customer for SDK’s heat exchangers, pursues very high levels of economic efficiency and environmental performance in the new models announced on September 22. In response, SDK has offered high-performance automotive heat exchangers based on its aluminum fabrication technology and know-how accumulated over many years.

Specifically, SDK will provide Honda with the following products:

  1. 1. Condensers (equipment for condensing coolant) - Small-sized, lightweight, high-performance condensers are to be installed in Civic and Civic Hybrid produced in Japan; Civic Sedan produced in the U.S.A. and Canada; and Civic produced in Thailand for the Thai market.
  2. Evaporators (equipment for evaporating coolant) - Very thin laminated evaporators are to be installed in the above-mentioned models.
  3. Aluminum piping - SDK has developed a piping system that maximizes the performance of car air-conditioners within a limited space of engine rooms. This system is to be installed in Civic and Civic Hybrid produced in Japan as well as Civic produced in Thailand for the Thai market.
  4. Heat sinks for hybrid cars (for control of power generation using waste heat from engine, brake, etc.) - High-performance heat sinks, designed and produced by SDK, are to be installed in Civic Hybrid. The heat sink ensures highly efficient heat dissipation as a result of the combination of good design (components and shape), duly selected aluminum material, and precision extrusion technology.

In the area of motor sports, SDK has been providing its radiators to Honda for more than 20 years for use in racing motorcycles. SDK’s radiators are also being used in Honda’s cars for Indy Racing League and other four-wheel racing car events.
