Zimmer to Supply Polybutylene Terephthalate Plant to China

The Frankfurt based Zimmer AG, a company of GEA group, received from Blue Star New Chemical Materials Co., Ltd. a contract to supply a polyester polycondensation plant producing polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The plant will be built in Nantong and is due to go on-stream in III. quarter 2007. With this project Zimmer underlines its leading position in the market for PBT-plants.

Based on Zimmer's proven continuous low-pressure process, the PBT plant is designed to produce 200 tons polymer per day, using as raw materials terephthalic acid (PTA) and 1.4 butanediol. The polymer will be processed to obtain granulate for engineering plastics. Zimmer will provide technology and equipment for the plant as well as supervision of construction and start-up.

PBT is used especially in the automotive and electronic industry.
