Sumitomo and CDT to Develop PLED Displays

Sumitomo Chemicals and Cambridge Display Technologies will work together in the development of a high efficiency polymer OLED (PLED) display. Together they will co-operate in the development and scale up of an exciting new range of solution processable PLED materials, designed primarily for the manufacture of flat panel displays.

The companies will focus on the development of new phosphorescent materials, such as dendrimers which exhibit high efficiencies and good stabilities. Such high efficiency emitters are used in portable electronic devices like PDA’s, mobile phones and digital cameras which use batteries. It is also envisaged that these devices could also be used in TV’s and lighting devices in the future.

This new agreement reinforces Sumitomo’s involvement with Cambridge Display Technologies, as they are already a shareholder and materials licensee of their’s.
