As an Auxiliary Researcher, R. Santos graduated in Chemistry from the University of Porto in 1998 and completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the same University in 2008. Santos has published ten papers in international peer-review journals and has presented 39 scientific works at International Conferences.
Co-author of an article in a National book, 23 items of technical production, and 16 application notes at Analytik Jena AJ, he is the recipient of two awards and/or homage.
Between 1999 and 2008, he worked at UCTM-Lab as an ICP-MS specialist, developing various analytical methodologies applied to Portuguese Mineral Waters and Geological Materials characterization, such as ultra-trace elements analysis and the determination of isotope ratios.
In charge of the Hydrochemistry Department in UCTM-Lab, he was responsible for laboratory management to preserve the analytical quality control under the EN ISO/IEC 7025.
Between 2008 and 2014, he was the lead in the preparation and determination of the reference values of The National Proficiency Testing of Waters project – EAA and took part in various scientific projects, including MinReMol.
Today, he acts as a National auditor of the Portuguese National Accreditation Institute – IPAC for testing laboratories in accordance with NP EN ISO/IEC 17025. His primary research activities are related to Geochemistry and Groundwaters utilizing isotope ratios determined by ICP-MS to understand the water/rock interactions in Groundwater systems as well as Geochemistry used for environmental studies.
A number of the projects required Isotope Dilution in various types of Reference Materials.
In his present role as Global Manager of Application ICP-MS Specialists at AnalytikJena GmbH, Santos oversees the development of new application notes in all types of sample matrices. He trains internal ICP-MS specialists, offering technical and application customer training support worldwide while also promoting AJ products at international conferences, seminars, and workshops.
