Get the Best of Your Physical & Chemical Characterization of Battery Material Backed by Best Weighing Practices

Join this new Sartorius webinar in partnership with Anton Paar titled, 'Get the Best of Your Physical & Chemical Characterization of Battery Material Backed by Best Weighing Practices'

About this webinar:

Critical physical parameters of both cathode and anode materials include specific surface area, density and pore size distribution.  Specific surface area, as measured by gas adsorption and calculated according to the BET equation, is expressed in m2 per gram – so reliable results require accurate and precise measurements of sample weight and of the total amount of gas adsorbed. The same is true for density measurements done by gas pycnometry and powder tapping and pore volumes measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry and expressed in cm3 per gram.

Importance of Porosity

As the involved materials aren´t easy to handle sometimes due to electrostatic charges, this requires technical solutions to minimize the influence of these factors, especially during the weighing procedure. This webinar will pinpoint the key factors in these measurements - including weighing - that create accuracy and precision and will also provide practical advice to ensure the best data quality.

Influencing Factors for Cleanliness

Key learning objectives:

  • Avoid errors on your weighing accuracy - understand the influencing factors from environmental conditions
  • Maximize accuracy and reproducibility in your surface area measurements
  • Best practices in solid and powder density measurements
  • Identify those factors which make for accurate pore size, pore volume and porosity measurements

INSIGHTS FROM INDUSTRY - The Importance of Weighing in Battery Material Characterization

About the event speakers:

Mitesh Chhana has 15 years of commercial & technical experience in the Laboratory weighing industry and is highly experienced in selling weighing & software solutions into laboratories where chemical analysis is required across all segments.

Mitesh believes the key to supporting customers is understanding challenges & pain points to offer appropriate product and technical solutions that are appropriate.

Dr Thomas, Anton Paar QuantaTec’s Lead Scientist, has more than forty years’ of experience in the characterization of powders and porous materials. He obtained his PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK) for studies relating to the nickel hydroxide electrode. After a period working in ceramics and catalyst characterization he joined Quantachrome Instruments (Anton Paar QuantaTec since 2018) in 1991.

He is named on 10 patents relating to porous materials and their characterization, and is co-author of “Characterization of Porous Solids and Powders: Surface Area, Pore Size and Density” published by Springer.
