After months of speculation Masteel can now officially announce the arrival of Andy Fortheringham as Managing Director.
Michael Connell will step down as MD from the 18th August 2014 with Andy Fortheringham taking the reins with immediate effect.
Andy has vast experience in the industry selling most steel products including Plates, Sections, Welded Tubes, Seamless Tubes, Hollow Sections, Bulb Flats, Angles, Channels and Flat Bar to a considerable number of companies in the Oil and Gas industry.
Background
Andy holds an Honours degree in Metallurgy, following his studies Andy spent 10 years in the technical area within the Tubes and Plates business progressively obtaining exposure to customer facing activities.
Andy’s technical knowledge is undoubted having spent time assuming technical responsibility for both of Tata’s plates mills in the late 1990’s.
Increasing customer contact facilitated a move to commercial in 1999 within the Energy related business, followed by a stint in Shipbuilding which preceded a move to the projects arm of the International Business in 2004. Andy gained experience during this time with various end users and the specialist stockist involved in the projects business and latterly was package building for the Type 45 and Astute programmes.
Since Mid -2004 Andy has from a standing start built a bespoke Offshore Structures business which at its peak was turning over some £30M per annum. This business was essentially focussed on supplying multi-product packages to end users in International markets. A fundamental pillar of this was Andy’s ability to source materials from third parties either to meet complex technical requirements of the project or merely to be cost competitive in distant markets.
Andy is keen to replicate the success he has had in his career so far with Masteel. With his experience and sterling track record for delivering results to distant markets with potentially troublesome logistics Andy is sure to achieve great things at Masteel.
