IGASorp-CT: Dynamic Vapor Sorption at Elevated Temperatures

The IGAsorp-CT system is a variation of the standard IGAsorp, which enables the analysis of uptake and kinetics of moisture sorption at high temperatures more rapidly and precisely than other techniques.

The isothermal operation range of the basic IGAsorp dynamic vapor sorption analyzer is extended in the IGAsorp-CT to 85°C. It was initially designed to perform the 85% RH/85°C analysis, which is applied as a quality and reliability test in the electronic parts and packaging industries in compliance with the IEC 60749 and IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C standards but more generally is useful for elevated temperature vapour sorption measurements for a range of application areas.

These include evaluation of material performance under elevated temperature conditions and fundamental characterisation studies. Moisture sorption processes studied at elevated temperatures benefit from faster kinetics without compromising experimental accuracy.

There is a focus on long-term operation and stability under the required climatic testing (CT) conditions, and analysis routines are included to determine the equilibrium solubility and the chemical diffusion coefficient from the measured data.

Key Features

The main features of the IGAsorp-CT are:

  • High-resolution humidity control with a minimum step change of 0.2% RH
  • Large capacity microbalance (5 g) with a resolution of 0.1 µg and outstanding long-term stability (±1 µg)
  • Linear ramp temperature control for thermogravimetric studies up to 350°C
  • Isothermal temperature measurement and control range from 5°C to 85°C
  • Fully automated unit to perform isothermal, isochoric and temperature-programmed experiments
  • User protection for sample loading at high temperatures.

Applications

The main application areas include:

  • Packaging
  • Food science
  • Electronic component testing
  • Building materials
  • Chemical diffusion coefficient determination
