Exova, Leading at the Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition

One of the world's leading authorities on corrosion prevention, Dr Chris Fowler of Exova, will be leading the upcoming 14th Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The event will take place at the Gulf International Convention Center, Gulf Hotel in Manama between February 12-15.

Chris's presentation is titled: NACE MR0175 (ISO 15156) vs NACE MR0103 vs REALITY.

The paper will focus on the two material recommendation documents:

  • MR0175 - covering exploration and production (upstream) and covering all forms of damage caused by sour conditions.
  • MR0103 - covering downstream facilities, which alternatively only covers sulfide stress corrosion cracking.

Chris will answer whether these standards are complimentary and what really occurs in the field. He will also look at how relevant HIC is as well as SOHIC downstream and if welding is adequately covered. The two standards will be compared and contrasted to field experience throughout.

Chris was invited to speak because of his established position within the corrosion sector. He was recently appointed to the board of administrators at the World Corrosion Organisation (WCO). The appointment follows the completion of his presidency at NACE International, the esteemed Houston-based association for the world-wide corrosion industry.

The Middle East Corrosion Conference and Exhibition dates back to 1979, when The West Asia & Africa Area and the Dhahran-Saudi Arabia Section of NACE International, along with the Bahrain Society of Engineers started the series of conferences. It has since grown substantially with 600 attendees expected, over 70 companies participating and over 130 technical papers being presented. Its technical program will include a number of lectures by distinguished international figures in the corrosion industry, with other disciplines of corrosion prevention and control being covered in separate session in the technical programme.
