RMSM Implement Automated Ultrasonic Inspection System

Rocky Mountains Steel Mills (RMSM) are set to become one of the first commercial sites to implement an automated ultrasonic inspection system. The system has been designed by Tubular Ultrasound.

RMSM are the third largest producer of seamless steel tubes in the US and will use the technology to test all materials before they are sent to the end user. Much of their product goes into the oil and gas industry where quality of product is critical to occupational health and safety, environmental preservation and operating efficiency.

The state of the art system overcomes the lengthy and cumbersome inspection processes previously used. The system also avoids the need to send materials away to third party test sites.

The technology will also perform tests twice as fast as older systems, with higher accuracy. Testing results can also be used directly to make changes to processing equipment should they be required.
