Top Employer 2014 Status In Europe Awarded to SABIC

Leading petrochemical company SABIC has been recognized for its excellence in human resources management at an awards ceremony held in London on 11 March. This certificate reaffirms SABIC’s commitment to HR policy, leadership and strategy, providing excellent employee conditions for its staff.

Moreover, it supports SABIC’s aim to become an employer of choice in the field of chemistry, supporting long-term growth and powering the ambitions of its employees and other stakeholders.

The annual international research undertaken by the Top Employers Institute recognises leading employers around the world. Those certificated must have shown that they provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation and strive to continuously optimise employment practices.

Wim Dufourné, SABIC’s Senior Director of Human Resources in Europe, commented: “SABIC is very proud to have been certified as Top Employer in Europe. While we have retained our certified status in the Netherlands for eight years in a row, we’ve brought Belgium, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom up to this top level. Achieving European wide recognition is a major step and, through hard work, we strive for continual improvement - it is a challenge we’re willing and ready to take on.”

Wim Dufourné continued: “Hiring the best people and investing in our existing talent are key parts of our approach to human resource management. They help us maintain our high performance work environment, staying ahead of our competitors on customer value, innovation and cost.

We aim to create environments where people are fully engaged and where SABIC is viewed both internally and externally as an employer of choice in the field of chemistry.

Only organisations that achieve certification in at least five countries within the region earn prestigious Top Employers Europe 2014 recognition. SABIC has been certified separately in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands (for the eighth year running), Spain and the United Kingdom. Beyond Europe, SABIC has also achieved certification as a Top Employer in China (fourth year running), India, South Korea, Japan and Singapore and is the recipient of the respected Top Employers Asia Pacific 2014 certificate.

The Top Employers Institute assessed SABIC’s employee offerings on the following criteria:

  • Primary Benefits
  • Secondary Benefits and Working Conditions
  • Training and Development
  • Career Development
  • Culture Management

Johann Labuschagne, Global Accounts Director for the Top Employers Institute, said: “Our extensive research concluded that SABIC forms part of a select group of employers that advance employee conditions worldwide. Their people are well taken care of. Now that they have received the Top Employers Europe 2014 certification, they can truly consider themselves at the top of an exclusive group of the world’s best employers.”

David Plink, Chief Executive Office of the CRF Institute, the International organisation that runs the Top Employers certification programme world-wide, commented; “Optimal employee conditions ensure that people can develop themselves personally and professionally. Our comprehensive research concluded that SABIC provides an outstanding employment environment and offers a wide range of creative initiatives, from secondary benefits and working conditions, to performance-management programmes that are well thought out and truly aligned with the culture of their company.”
