Oxford Instruments Founder Wins Award from Superconductor Community

Sir Martin Wood, founder of Oxford Instruments, has been awarded the IEEE Max Swerdlow Award for Sustained Service to the Applied Superconductivity Community.

The Council on Superconductivity of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has established this Award to recognise sustained service to the applied superconductivity community that has had a lasting influence on the advancement of the technology. In particular, Sir Martin is recognised for his innovative and bold approach to commercialising superconducting magnets and magnet systems, and other types of scientific instrumentation by founding and leading Oxford Instruments to become one of the leading superconductivity companies in the world.

Oxford Instruments continues this spirit of innovation today. It has grown into a worldwide business supplying high technology tools and systems into diverse markets which include research, industrial analysis, space, energy and the life sciences. Its products support the work being done to address the global issues of protecting the environment, energy, security and health.

Sir Martin will receive the Award at a ceremony in Chicago, USA on 18th August at the 2008 Applied Superconductivity Conference.
