High Resolution Spectrometer—AvaSpec-ULS4096CL-EVO

The AvaSpec-ULS4096CL-EVO is another addition to Avantes’ EVO series. This spectrometer uses CMOS rather than the traditional CCD technology, which makes it up to date and ready for the next 10 years.

The spectrometer has 4096 pixels and is thus customized for high resolution applications, such as laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and plasma measurements.

CCD detectors have dominated the spectrometer field but this trend is declining and novel technologies, such as CMOS, have evolved and turned out to be a suitable substitute. The AvaSpec-ULS4096CL-EVO provides users with this new technology, guaranteeing a spectrometer platform for the years to come.

Together with Avantes’ new AS-7010 electronics, the AvaSpec-ULS4096CL-EVO provides users with a multipurpose device, which includes USB3.0 communication with 10 times higher speed than USB2 and a second communication port that provides Gigabit Ethernet for incorporation in a company network and a chance for long-distance communication at a reasonable price.

In addition to the high speed communication options, the EVO also provides a rapid microprocessor and a 50-fold higher memory capacity, which can help users store more spectra onboard and achieve further functionality.

Optional detector collection lens to improve sensitivity in the 200 to 1100 nm range and an order-sorting filter to decrease second-order effects are also provided. The AvaSpec-ULS4096CL-EVO is provided with an array of gratings, slit sizes and fiber-optic entrance connectors and comes complete with a USB cable, AvaSoft-Basic software and an extensive manual.
