PANalytical to Showcase Latest X-Ray Analytical Offerings for Petroleum-Based Products

PANalytical, the world’s leading supplier of instrumentation and software for X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry and X-ray diffraction (XRD), will contribute to the 104th Gulf Coast Conference, Galveston, Texas on 20-21 January 2009. The company will exhibit the latest additions to its range of systems designed for the analysis of petroleum-based products.

X-ray analysis provides many advantages over alternative physical and chemical analysis techniques and has become established throughout the value chain in the petrochemical industry. In Galveston, visitors to booth 607/609 will be able to talk to PANalytical experts about the MiniPal 4 Sulfur, a compact EDXRF spectrometer that delivers best in class performance with detection limits down to 1 ppm. Ideal for quality control and ensuring compliance with the increasing demands of international regulations, MiniPal 4 Sulfur supports all relevant ASTM, ISO, DIN and EPA analysis protocols.

PANalytical’s Axios-Petro WDXRF spectrometer is the fastest and most sensitive instrument available today. Configured specifically to meet the needs of the petrochemical industry, Axios-Petro handles a wide range of analyses, including: determination of sulfur in all kinds of petroleum products; monitoring Fe, Na, Sb and K as process efficiency indicators; monitoring of additives and stabilizers in lubricating oils; wear metal analysis in lubricants; determination of S, Ni, Cl and V levels in waste oil; and the analysis of petroleum coke.

Oil-Trace, an analytical software package will also be presented. It offers highly accurate analysis of elements important in bio-fuel production and blending (B15, B10, E85) from a wide range of matrices, and with a single calibration. The Oil-Trace/Axios-Petro combination provides the most complete analytical solution for the analysis of petroleum products.

PANalytical’s petrochemical standard sets make reliable and accurate XRF calibration a simple, convenient and cost-effective procedure. These NIST traceable standard sets are available for: wear metals, lubrication oils, sulfur in diesel fuel, biodiesel, isooctane and oil. Each includes standards, application templates, drift monitors and a unique calibration verification sample. The use of these sets can be extended with PANalytical’s new performance testing program, an on-line service that offers independent, third party inter-laboratory assessment of performance and proficiency.

Completing the XRF range on show will be PANalytical’s trace element analyzer Epsilon 5. A fully integrated system, Epsilon 5 is characterized by highly precise, sub-ppm analysis of medium to heavy metals, targeting a wide range of elements of environmental significance.

Until now, XRD has been considered an accurate analytical technique, but too slow for industrial applications. This has changed with the introduction of PANalytical’s CubiX FAST. This system brings speed, reliability and reproducible results to the analysis of key compounds for quality control in high-throughput industrial applications such as catalyst screening.
