Ube Industries announced plans to establish a new technical centre in Thailand to be named Ube Technical Center (Asia) Ltd. The capital for the new company will come from Ube Nylon (Thailand) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ube Industries.
Ube Nylon (Thailand) operates a plant in Rayong Province, Thailand, where it overseas the manufacturing and sales of 25,000 tons of nylon and 6,000 tons of glass reinforced nylon compounds annually. The new technical centre will share the same address as Ube Nylon (Thailand) and will perform technical services for customers. Services will include material assessments such as heat resistance and weatherproof testing for nylon products, in addition to defect analysis and other services. The new centre is expected to start operations in October 2005, with plans to add further testing and inspection equipment for the purpose of successively expanding its range of services.
The new technical center will serve as a powerful driving force behind the development of the nylon market in Thailand, the sales region covered by Ube Nylon (Thailand), as well as the rest of the ASEAN region. Looking forward, the new center will also undertake various development work on behalf of the Ube Group as a whole. In this role, Ube Industries anticipates that the new center will grow into a major development hub for Asia including Japan.
Eventually, Ube Technical Center (Asia) will evolve into a development wing for its parent company in Japan, in addition to supporting products manufactured in Thailand. The new technical center will work closely with Ube Engineering Plastics R&D Center, a European subsidiary located in Castellon, Spain that is scheduled to start operations by the end of 2005. In so doing, Ube Technical Center (Asia) will establish a global framework for supporting users.
