Particle Characterization with a Universal Shapefinder | QICPIC

Universal shape finder QICPIC offers particle characterization ranging from below 1 µm to 34,000 µm. The modular particle size and shape analyzer developed the full power of dynamic image range analysis. High-speed image analysis using a pulsed light source with illumination times of less than 1 nanosecond cause the particles to be optically frozen while a high-resolution, high-speed camera images the razor-sharp particle projections with a resolution of up to 4 MP and frequency of up to 500 frames per second.

QICPIC’s powerful algorithms evaluate millions of particles in shortest time to guarantee superior statistically relevant results. Measures for length, width, equivalent circumference and diameter of a circle describe the size of a particle. Sphericity, aspect ratio and convexity provide information about the particle shape. Fibres can also be properly evaluated with length, diameter, straightness and elongation. All parameters may either be presented as distribution for the whole sample or individually for each single particle. A particle gallery with numerous selection and filter options supports the generation of specific and meaningful results. With the recorded particle video stored in the data-base the complete measurement can be viewed subsequently. QICPIC has an array of applications in industry and research, in pharmaceutical and chemical industry, food and beverage technology or soil science to name a few.

Measuring ranges with maximum resolution

With a range of up to 7 precision lenses the overall particle measuring range from below 1 µm to 34 mm is covered. The wide dynamic measuring range of each optical module (1:2,000) the particle size and shape characterization of even wide distributed disperse products. Different levels of image capturing performance are realized with selected high speed and high-resolution CMOS cameras and matching interfaces. As the images of every single particle are assessed individually the quality of singling out particles is of prime importance.

Modular system design for product-specific characterisation

Applying dosing and dispersing units of modular design for dry and wet products the particle sizer QICPIC is flexible to adapt to powders, granules, fibres, suspensions and emulsions. This ensures a product-specific characterization of particle size and particle shape parameters matching the true nature of the application.
