CAV® 4.2 | Dual-Bath, Two-Tube, Benchtop Kinematic Viscometer

The CANNON® CAV 4.2 is a dual-bath, completely automated, benchtop viscometer with a 28 position (two 14-position carousels) sample handler for unattended D445 processing. Each of the two tubes (one per bath) spans a 100-fold viscosity range from 15 °C to 150 °C (with available options) at values ranging from 0.5 to 10000 mm2/s (cSt).

Features and Benefits

D445 Precision in a Modern, Dependable Design

  • A trusted CANNON viscometer platform offers reliability and dependable support
  • Two independent baths allow for testing at two temperatures at the same time
  • Two removable, 14-position sample handlers provide dependable, unattended processing of up to 24 determinations each hour
  • Automation replaces labor-intensive manual testing and lowers operator-to-operator inconsistency
  • Multi-colored bath lights, visible from across the lab, provide an indication of operational status
  • Temperature range is 40 to 100 °C (15 to 150 °C with bath options)
  • Viscosity range is 0.5 to 10000 mm²/s (cSt) in 100-fold increments* (spanning the range of five individual manual viscometers)

Compact and Self-Contained with Flexible Configuration

  • Included VISCPRO® software enables user-defined test methods and the management and control of up to four instruments from a single PC
  • Optional, eco-friendly Peltier cooling entails no external refrigeration
  • Easy, out-of-the-box installation
  • View, print, save, and export user-configurable reports
  • An onboard computer enables the execution of preprogrammed test settings without the use of an external PC

Reduced Consumable Costs

  • Automation of vial washing and drying allows for reuse and reduces vial consumption
  • When compared to larger predecessor tubes, next-generation Atlantic-style tubes lower solvent usage and disposal expenses by 50%

Simplified Maintenance and Test Versatility

  • Several different testing methods can be performed in the same sample tray
  • Includes standard dual-solvent input
  • Operators can replace tubes in minutes, reducing the need for related support calls
  • A modular bath design provides easy access for maintenance
  • High throughput and selective zone heating of individual samples from 40 to 100 °C

Common Applications

  • Formulated oil analysis
  • Hydraulic oil analysis
  • Additive analysis
  • Marine fuel testing
  • Base stock analysis
  • Light and heavy fuel testing
  • Waxes/paraffin testing
  • Crude oil testing
  • Glycols

*The test temperature and sample type may limit some higher viscosity measurements. Ubbelohde-style tubes (for volatile compounds that are not pure solvents and high melt waxes) are also offered in 100-fold increments and rapid run 10-fold increments from 0.5 to 10,000 mm2/s (cSt).
