3M Completes Expansion of Ultra Barrier Solar Film Manufacturing Plant

3M, a specialist in transparent ultra barrier film technology, has declared that it has expanded the facility that manufactures Ultra Barrier Solar Film in Missouri. Increasing demand for high-efficient photovoltaic (PV) modules will be supported by this facility extension.

3M has specifically designed the Ultra Barrier Solar Film to fulfill the necessities of manufacturers dealing in solar thin films. This film serves as a substitute for glass and provides exceptional weatherability, excellent moisture barrier performance, and high light transmission.

Flexible and lightweight solar PV modules that are manufactured using this new film can reduce balance of systems (BOS) expenditures, when compared to hard glass modules. These modules need less time for installation, do not require metal racking, and minimize logistics costs.

The manufacturing expenses for modules may possibly be minimized by 3M’s Ultra Barrier Films, enabling manufacturers to market large area modules that are assembled in a roll-to-roll method. The widths of 3M’s Ultra Barrier Solar Film may vary up to 1.2 m and these films are available in broader widths based on the market demands.

A strong portfolio of previous and fresh products is provided by the Renewable Energy Division of 3M. These products combine 3M’s knowledge in adhesive, coatings, film, optical and tape technologies in order to extend renewable energy and global energy efficiency markets.

The company closely works with national laboratories in order to expand its energy conservation and energy generation technologies, besides its world-class research and development facilities. In recent years, the company’s manufacturing potential has been expanded for Renewable Energy Division products in order to make large-scale production of key products to fulfill the increasing demands of customers.
